Beyond myths and legends, Dracula and blood sucking vampires, Transylvania is without doubt one of Europe’s best hidden secrets. We invite you to embark on a journey into a fairy tale world filled with medieval cities and castles, friendly people and unspoiled nature, where wolves and bears still rule over the forests of the Carpathian Mountains.

Departing from Cluj, we will travel towards Southern Transylvania and after a short drive, arrive in Turda. The city is famous mostly for its rich salt reserves. Ever since the Romans have discovered it 2000 years ago, it has become one of Transylvania’s best export products. We will visit the 300-year old Salt Mine, go over 100 meters deep and witness one of Romania’s most popular museums.
At noon we will reach Alba Iulia, Transylvania’s medieval capital and visit not only the 1000 year old Catholic Cathedral, but also the small but excellent Roman museum and learn more about this 2000 year old city. It is also one of the landmarks of the Romanian history, marking the birth of modern day Romania.
Next on our list is Sibiu. Dinner in a specialty restaurant in the city center and accommodation for one night are planned here.
In the morning we will discover Sibiu. Founded almost 900 years ago, it was inhabited by a German speaking population. The many medieval walls, as well as the large squares, the elegant palaces and the 2 cathedrals make it one of Romania’s top destinations.
At noon we will depart for the mountains and reach one of the world’s most spectacular mountain roads: the Transfagarasan. Built at the request of the dictator Ceausescu, the road crosses Romania’s highest mountains and offers some breath-taking sceneries. We will descend with a cable car and return by car, having probably seen a couple of brown bears in the forest…
In the evening we will arrive in Bran, Romania’s most famous site… Erected between the 12th and 14th century it became famous as Dracula’s castle. How much of this legend is really true, one can only find out while visiting the castle…
Dinner and accommodation are planned close to the castle…
In the morning we will depart for Brasov, one of the country’s most beautiful cities. Build by German colonists in the 14th century, it soon became one of Europe’s richest cities. The largest medieval church in South-Eastern Europe, as well as the guild residencies and their shops are waiting to be discovered…
At noon we will travel into the Transylvanian countryside, to Viscri. The village became famous due to the involvement of several charitable foundations in the preservation of the local culture and historical heritage of the area. One of these foundations, the Mihai Eminescu Trust is under the patronage of King Charles the 5th. The highlight of the village is for sure the fortified church, dating back to the 12th century, which was later fortified with big walls and towers to protect the villagers from the enemies. Nowadays, the old towers have been turned into an interesting museum of the village. All restoration works were carried out with local labor and materials. We invite you to take horse carrige ride through the most beautiful village ensemble in Transylvania, to visit the fortified church and take a journey into an almost forgotten world… We will also visit the local blacksmith and have a 100% private demonstration.
Dinner an accommodation are planned in the neighboring village.
After breakfast we will return to Cluj, but nevertheless have enough time to visit Sighişoara. It is considered to be the most beautiful medieval site in Romania and the city’s historical center has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List for many years now. The two gothic churches, the narrow streets and old craftsmen houses preserve an old, medieval atmosphere. It is said that Count Dracula was born in one of these houses – how much of it is true, we can only find out by visiting this lovely little city. At noon we will reach Cluj, just in time to prepare for the welcome dinner.
